Music: Grand opening of The Cut Live

New music venue alert! Gloucester is the place to be this Saturday (January 13), as the grand opening of The Cut Live packs a legendary lineup to kickstart the Cape Ann joint and celebrate the birthday of the godfather of Boston punk, Willie Alexander

The 500-capacity, 300-seat venue in downtown Gloucester — complete with bar and restaurant, plus rehearsal and recording studios (!!!) — raises a glass to our music scene past and present with performances by Alexander’s Boom Boom Band, Richie Parsons, David Robinson of The Modern Lovers, “Mission of Burnham” with Hugo Burnham of Gang of Four, Rick Berlin, The Real Kids’ John Felice, Jen D’Angora of The Shang Hi Los, Andrea Gillis, Classic Ruins, The Neighborhoods, Kenne Highland, and plenty more. Check the flyer below for the full rundown.

“Willie and The Lost opened the Boston Tea Party — one of the most celebrated venues not just in Boston, but across the country, 57 years ago this month,” says The Cut Live’s concert and event manager Tom Clark. “It’s an honor to have Willie and so many of his remarkable colleagues christening The Cut on his birthday. We’re confident that the good vibes from that night in 1967 will infuse this room and we’re looking forward to many, many great nights to come.”

It’s off to a great start. Upcoming shows at The Cut include Vapors of Morphine (January 27); Shemekia Copeland (March 16); and GA-20 (April 13). Hit the link for the full schedule.
